Day Five: Halfway Point!

At the culmination of the day- we are officially half-way through our endurance driving test.  The morning began driving through St. Louis, which would have been more enjoyable had we remembered to change our clocks backwards and avoid rush hour traffic. Oops.

With all the time stuck in traffic, we could get a better glimpse of the Gateway Arch. It is big.

The ride was much more relaxed after we got through the city- we took Route 66. It was very nostalgic for us - even though it looks just like any other road... I like to think of all those who traveled before us... but when I think, I get hungry. So we had to stop at a Welcome Center and ask for a good place to get food. The locals were awesome- and directed us to a grocery store and a neat park to let Baxter run. The park was really neat- and we had the place to ourselves for a bit... until Baxter attracted the attention of an eight year old boy, who entertained him for quite awhile.

We are stopped in Joplin, Missouri for the night, which is right near the Oklahoma border. Joplin is famous for the tornado that devastated the town. Other than that, there is nothing to do here except eat any fast food you can ever imagine, and buy furniture. We were surprised at the size of this town- as the news coverage had made it seem like a simple farming community- classic news media hoopla.

We are pretty exhausted from five days on the road- and unbelievably sore from sitting all day (who knew?) Relaxing in the hotel swimming pool would have been amazing- but it is closed!

Love,

Alex and Michelle

  1. Would the largest gift store have the largest gift available - say a space shuttle or maybe just a tremendous snow globe?
